Before smoking was banned in the baseball stadium (outdoors, unlike Phoenix), I noticed that smokers would hold their cigarettes so that the smoke off the hot end never blew into _their_ faces.

"Outdoors" and "public places" aren't necessarily the same.

What I don't like in my face is smoke, and what I don't like everywhere else is cigarette butts. What I really don't like is people I love dying of lung cancer... three so far.

They're predicting a high of 59 here today. Last month we spent $120 on natural gas, mostly for heating. We don't have a/c. Opposite extreme!

The cig companies bred high-nicotine tobacco, chemically enhance its addictiveness, and specifically advertized it to kids to get them addicted. They made him smoke.

So, when the war on smokers gets as intense as the war on drugs, so only back-alley low-lifes like me can get cigarettes, and people still get cancer, THEN will they admit that they're wrong and smoking _doesn't_ "cause cancer"?

Cigarette companies have the same problem that deodorant and soap companies have. Once you settle on a brand of that kind of product you like, you usually stick with it for life. So, they have to promote it to people who are just starting to buy such a product for themselves.

Of course soap and deodorant don't generally kill people, and they tend to smell relatively pleasant to others, but the business issue is the same.
