The British National Health service costs half as much per head as the US s ystem, and delivers better health care averaged across the whole population .

How can it be "ruinously" expensive? The UK economy is something of a mess, but that's largely because Margaret Thatcher destroyed the UK manufacturin g sector.

She famously complained that UK workers were less productive than their German counter-parts. They generated less money per hour worked. An economi st repeated the calculation, but sorted the results according to the capita l invested per worker, and found that heavily capitalised UK workers were m ore productive than their German counter-parts, which is to say that UK ind ustrialists were only picking the low-hanging fruit when it came to capital investment.

Thatcher didn't seem to get the message - there was no Tory push to increas e capital investment in manufacturing industry.

Quite how the US system of making health care more expensive makes people l ook after themselves better isn't obvious. The US has a horrible obesity pr oblem, which means that Type 2 diabetes is a lot more prevalent there than in the UK.

Cursitor Doom's idea of what constitutes reality doesn't seem to include th at obvious fact.

He's out there with Jamie for having silly ideas about health and health ca re.
