Try "Information Storage Devices". I have an ISD1000A that I bought years ago meaning to build something out of it; it's still in it's original Rat-Shack packaging.

They're not really RAM -- they're basically analog EEPROMs, with stored analog values in each cell.

There is really no point in using this sort of technology now. Several companies offer a choice of digital record/playback chips, some using external memories, and others with internal memory. The WinBond ISD2540, is a typical example, offering 40 seconds of recording. Memory technology for digital, has moved on much faster than for analog, and is cheaper. Versions of this chip, are available with less or more memory.

Are you looking for this old technology Bucket Brigade Device (BBD)?

I only remember that I have read some years(10?) ago of very cheap ICs for short time speech recording, but I have forgotten the type and manufacturer.

Yes, I remember building reverb units with these. :-) I'd hate to think what a BBD, with 256K cells would cost!.

thanks for this reminder. Yes this is what I couldn't remember. It works like an analog Flash memory where the input voltage is permanently stored in a transistor. This is very different to the ancient BBD where charge has been transfered from capacitor to capacitor to make a delay.
