PADS : convert to PS

Dec 06, 2006 5 Replies

Hi all,

I've worked with a partener who use PADS to generate PCB. He has generated a PDF file which represents a layout board. But I can't make a research of a component because the PDF is manage is an image. I think he mist convert the file into PS file and then convert PS file into PDF file. But he told me that I can't do that. I can just convert into ASCII file.

Have you got an idea ?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Using a driver for a PS printer, you can use that to print to a PS file. You may then convert that to a PDF file, if you wish, using Ghostview and Ghostscript.

Thanks for your response. But the problem is not that we can't convert to PDF. The problem is that we can't make a string research in the PDF file.

Max, setup a PDF writer as a printer in PADS, then just print to it? Or find a "smart PDF writer program" that way you can search the PDF file for a text string such as reference designators etc.

I think that you need to use TrueType fonts - in order for the text to be searchable.

Presumably he can output Gerber from PADS. Then, he could use GerberGrab to reverse engineer the Gerber
