Farnell have a range of low dropout 3 terminal regulators. I haven't checked closely, but I suspect the LM2940T, LM2940CT, LD1086V120, LT1086CT12, L4940V12 may all replace the KA78R12. The LM2940CT-12 is available from Jaycar, cat# ZV-1562, $7.

The second part is a Samsung/Fairchild PWM controller with integrated high current MOSFET:

If you can't find the original, then you may want to try adapting a TopSwitch product from Power Integration:

WES Components carry the TOP201, 202, 214, 224, and 225 parts.

Of course, what a silly tit I am, it's a 3 leg regulator "KA78R12" see how helpful I could of been if Matt have of posted more information, that's why I say some of these people need to tell us more for us to help them.

Agreed

such posts I would simply ignore, and I cant blame others who do likewise.

Unfortunately in real life too, I notice this sort of stuff is getting more and more common, questions condensed as much as possible, containing no information etc, that just makes understanding them take much longer

- its easier not to bother, and makes me more understand the reasons behind some of Phils responses.
