Pi Zero audio out??

Question

So I'm doing an update to my Pi/Philco Predicta antique television project... you boot the Pi up, which is connected to the TV thru a horrible workaround - Pi HDMI to HDMI/Coax converter to OHM converter to bunny-ears antique TV two screws...

I can get good video, but the audio is rough at best. I know that I can cobble together a bluetooth speaker connection - but its finnicky at best. I wish the Pi Zero had a 3.5mm out because I could connect to an old Bose speaker I have.

What audio-out options would you look at? I know I can use the GPIO to get sound out, but what other options am I missing?

Wish I could stream the Pi's output to my Sonos speakers, that would be easy...

If I could get a clean audio out, I can dial in the picture on the Philco Predicta very well.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm trying to decide whether I want to use the on-board bluetooth, or some DAC hat like this. Appreciate the link and info.

Ahhh - that might w0rk for my needs, cause I do have a capable old Bose speaker w/ 3.5mm inputs... I think Bose uses that neat internal piping to make their sound bigger, but it might be neat to try and crack the case and install the Bose speaker INSIDE the Predicta.

At any rate, this is an option that I'll look at too.

Bluetooth connection to an external BT speaker. (Pi doesn't perform GREAT here, tho...)
DAC HAT for red/white audio outs
USB Hub w/ audio outputs

I have superb audio out of my PiFi, using a HiFiberry  audio hat. you use the correct driver, it Just Works

I'll second that. A few months ago I built an audio server using a DAC+ that does internet radio as well as well as playing from an in-house media server as well as from a (USB attached) SSD. Sound is excellent, handling is through volumio.

There might even be enough space to fit Zero inside this USB hub:

And power the hub and Zero from the power supplied to the hub. From phone charger... connected with this USB connection for this hub. Just desolder data lines from the cable... than connect Zero pins to data pins and power from the external USB.

Pi Zero audio out??
