As promised, the following link outlines my exploits of a Hitachi camcorder, using the tiny little B&W eye piece as a Raspberry Pi console.

The eye piece is not very practical for reading text, but may have graphical applications.
It may be most useful as is a portable video monitor/tester. In a small box, it could be used for testing the presence of video signal on a cable.
