Phillips Manual

If you want help please post all the information you have. Most places file service manuals by year and/or model number and/or complete model number.

Why no luck at Philips? Is this one of the no service units? Did you ask them? Or is it really old.

Philips did away with home audio service on most items under $200 new several years back. It was cheaper for them to exchange the units under warranty and refurb the ones they could in Mexico than to support service centers with spare parts and service manuals.

Typical Philips. The worst sort of company. Don't reward them by buying anything from them in the future.

I called Phillips...The person did a search - said they don't have any information on it, anymore. It was much higher than $200 when bought new and the guy said it was an older unit - Although it has more features than a couple of Sony A/V Rcvrs I own.

A friend gave me the receiver, a Luxman CD player, and a cassette tape player (I was looking for one for Amateur radio use). There's an intermittent in the receiver so I have it on the bench and currently doing a magnifier search for poor solder joints...One poss. so far. although even that one isn't looking too bad. I'll solder it again anyway.

As for not buying Phillips...I have some test equipment and a Phillips CD player and have never had a problem with them. The CD player is about 15 years old, or more, and still works like a charm.

Ok on the microfiche source...I found that and may have to go that route.

Ah, but the fact that they aren't supporting their product should be a clue. The don't give a damn, they make the equipment as cheap as possible, using children and political prisoners in China. Their later model CD players' pickups die like flies, and parts are overpriced, when they are even available. Their physical construction techniques are unusual, often bordering on shoddy, even unsafe. They don't even honor consumer rebates. I think PlanetFeedback.com changed their name, but Google them, get an updated link, and do a search for Philips. No other company generates such universally negative feedback.

Their stuff used to be great in quality - they even had their own repair shops and techs and trained other shop's techs. But that was 40+ years ago - most I've seen from them in recent years has been crap. Funny that the noname stuff seems to be best now.
