Spiral phase plate looking for advise on making shape..tia sal
Greetings all I'm trying to make a spiral phase plate out of plastic (see link below). I have all the tools I'm just a little lost as how I should procede. It doesn't have to be perfect or large. The Diameter would be just 5 inches

Kewl. I'd try casting first, since I'm not much of a machinist. OTOH you may find that the range of refractive index is limited in castable transparent stuff. If you're feeling froggy, try glass.
Stray thought; make a similarly-shaped mirror out of polished metal by making a radial cut in a thin disc, then displace the edges of the cut just a little bit. Use the finished product as the back mirror in a gas laser. CW orbital-angular-momentum laser?
