I agree...that is for personal/vanity pages in my opinion. Even in
2005, some computers are slow to display this stuff, and some people just want to cut to the chase, get the order done.

Right...text. You can't even assume that everyone has a version of Office running, for example.
When I taught some computer classes a few years back, I gave lesson-plan CD's to my students. They were in Word, HTML, and Plain Text mode, so even a DOS computer had the capability to display them. Lowest Common Denominator, I think is the term.
