RedHat 8 for VersaLogic PC/104 Bobcat?

Hi Folks;

I'm building a PC/104 stack for a NASA sensor, need to interface this with a digitizer. I'm using a VersaLogic PC/104 "Bobcat" 586-based SBC which comes with a simplified (and hence small) Linux RedHat 6.2 kernel. My problem to resolve looks like this:

a) the digitizer comes with RedHat 8.0 s/w; will this likely compile and run on RedHat 6.2?

b) if not, how does one find/generate/buy a more up-to-date RedHat Linux kernel which must necessarily fit onto the 96MB DiskOnChip Flash RAM?

Any helpful suggestions much appreciated, regards rob

If it's soruce, it should be portable to any linux dist with some work.
