Well, we can quibble about whether or not they are forums, but is is not really relevant.
They are a place to hold discussions, and different ones have different norms for posting styles.
I happen to agree that topposting is awful, however, in a newsgroup, bulletin board, whatever, where it is the norm, trying to mix in other types of posting is worse than just conforming to their norm.
