iPAQ running pocket pc <--> linux host ppp failure

Hi, I am using a iPAQ 3870, running Pocket PC version 3.0.11171 (Build

11178). It runs on an ARM SA1110. I want to connect it to a Linux desktop that runs Redhat 9, so as to be able to transfer files. Some howto's I found suggested ppp. Here is the link I followed. Similar method is also mentioned on handhelds.org for establishing a ppp connection, he only difference being in the options of "chat".

formatting link

Both cases I am getting a "connecting to host" pop-up on the iPAQ, followed by retries and finally failed. The linux host says "connect script failed"

What might be the problem ?

thanks 'j'
