Where does the money go

Not an exactly parallel situation. Once a house has burnt down, you can't b urn it down again, and you can go and live in another house.

Pre-existing conditions do make it more likely that you will need to incur medical expenses, but you can't move into a new body.

The logic is that society wants everybody to have health care insurance, an d insurance companies thus have to set their fees on the basis that they ca n't cherry-pick their customers.

It's a vile interference in the free market, but the US illustrates the poi nt that a free market in health care doesn't work very well - US health car e costs half-as-much again more than than the most extravagant equivalents in other advanced industrial countries, and delivers poorer outcomes for th e population as a whole, and no better outcomes for the fully insured.

That is a fact. Insurance doesn't work for unique circumstances. People who write such policies (i.e. take such chances) are called "gamblers". Lloyds of London is famous for such "insurance". It's not.

I understand that you're completely clueless.

That's the bottom line on Obamacare. Everything else is just backup.

Note that was a company group plan, if that family was buying an individual policy, they would have been denied or the price would have been unaffordable.

See note above. Those that bought individual plans are the ones getting screwed at this time, I suspect the victims will broaden as Obamacare screw you rules get more widely implemented.

I received this from my insurance company today,

"Because your current Florida Blue health plan was in effect prior to December 31, 2013, you're covered until next summer ? and there's nothing you need to do right now. [This would be the $7,752 policy]

As the time to change your plan gets closer, we'll provide you with details of your new plan options and what you'll need to do. [This would be changing to the inferior $13,800 policy]

In the meantime, if your health needs or your family status has changed, you can look for other plans to compare your options during the open enrollment period."

They are looking forward to that extra $6,048 they get for giving me a policy with higher deductible and less coverage than what I have. Mikek

You are retarded, deluded or simply have a bad case of Demetria.

Insurance at one time was a voluntary program, you got it and paid for it, it was for you, and you only or who ever else you decided to cover on it.

Then some asholes decided that you must have insurance to drive, well ok, I always had insurance anyway. At least I can decide not to drive and not be in fault of some law.. Soon I am sure they'll find some way to force every one to pay auto insurance, even if you don't drive. You know, pay for the free loaders and illegals. After all, somehow it'll fall under health care, since you may be forced one day to drive yourself to a doctor.. Or what ever excuse they can come up with.

Now we are faced with being force to buy health insurance and there is no choice. This is not heath insurance, it's a fraudulent program put in place with the hopes of collecting money, if you really think it was anything else, you are mistaken.

The way I look it, Obamas tricks to push it through backed fired, now money is being moved all over to cover the tracks of the assholed and you condole it. It's fine if you can benefit from it, isn't it ?

Remember, insurance = voluntary program... This is not insurance, it's a scam that you support, most likely because it benefits you at this juncture of life. But have you ever thought about the other millions of people, that your kind has screwed in the process? No, you are the "Me Me, it's all ME, I don't care about anyone else, it's all for ME"

Don't worry, the system will fold, very soon, there is no way it can withstand this kind of pressure, especially with those like yourself promoting it like that, you are only encouraging collapse.

After reading your many idiotic posts, You sound like another GOV worker, most likely been sucking down the dole programs as they come.

Jamie

Why don't you ask them why? They are the ones who set the rates.

BTW, you are free to shop it around. That's free enterprise.

Rick

Wow, you *are* deluded. Not everyone drives... while everyone does have health and gets sick.

Your logic is very twisted.

Actually I am in favor of it for all the people who can't afford insurance or getting sick. If I couldn't get insurance I would be paying for my own health care. If I have to I can afford it.

No, it won't "fold". It is a system that has checks and balances. But it will show just how expensive health care is in this country and that will be the problem that is addressed next. But it may take another 20 years.

We also held onto slavery in this country for a long time after other countries figured out it was a bad idea.

Rick

I'll keep the policy I have, as long as the government allows it. But as you see by the letter you snipped, time is running short.

Mikek

I'm wondering if I can have two healthcare insurance plans?

I'm contemplating back surgery, I could sign up for a very low deductible Obamacare plan while keeping my high deductible plan, get the surgery, pay the low deductible. Then I could drop the Obamacare plan and still have my low cost plan.

If I drop the plan I have now, they won't allow me to get it back.

Mikek

If you really planned on paying the money back, then you ought to be fine just paying cash. It's obviously faster, cheaper, and less hassle (cuts out lots of middlemen, hassle, and paperwork).

The only rational reason to buy the new, over-priced insurance is if you plan on taking more (from everyone else in the 'pool') than you expect to pay in.

But I don't want to rag on you, I just thought you could understand it more easily if explained in terms of your own situation.

It didn't work.

I encourage you to pillage Obamacare and help collapse it. You'd best pass your costs onto other people's premiums ASAP, while you can. It's not going to last.

No need to wait, you can probably claim a circumstance that exempts you from the open enrollment waiting period. Grab a max policy. You could probably even get the surgery without paying any premiums at all.

Obamacare is everyone feeding in a frenzy to spend everyone else's money. Might as well start honing your skills now.

I read it, it's just wrong.

Cheers, James Arthur

anything, but you're going to get an expensive operation in exchange for a small premium.

ew

This seems unlikely.

As you do when you pay auto insurance. If you hit, or get hit by somebody w ith no auto-insurance, all the payouts made come from your auto-insurance p olicy, and your premium covers that risk.

one day to drive yourself to a doctor.. Or whatever excuse they can come up with.

Granted the inadequacy of your logic, even the most legitimate of reasons w ould probably strike you as an excuse - but auto-insurance isn't ever going to get folded into health insurance. Some people don't drive, but everybod y gets sick.

Jamie is the one who is mistaken here, but he lacks the wit to realise it. there's nothing fraudulent about universal health care, and the British sti ll call it National Insurance. It delivers better health outcomes for the p opulation as a whole than the US system at about half the price per head. I t's a bit Spartan, so you wait longer for elective operation than you would in France or Germany, or the US (if you are fully insured) and they are sl ow to adopt the more expensive cutting edge treatments. There's no fraud in volved.

The main trick that Obama used to get it through was to give the health ins urance industry most of the stuff they asked for. The industry gave up it's right to black-list people with pre-existing conditions, which is essentia lly what's being complained about, and this does mean that they have charge more to cover the people they would previously have refused to cover, but that's not a great deal of money. Quite what else Obama had to throw in to get the insurers on-side isn't clear to me, but it won't have made health i nsurance cheaper in the short term.

The whole point of Obamacare was to get US health insurance cover up to 95% . 100% cover - as provided by every other advanced industrial country - has to be the ultimate target, but for Obamacare that would have been a bridge too far.

There's no scam involved - beyond that fact that US healthcare scams the US public by charging half as much again per head than the French and German systems, without delivering any better health care, even to the fully insur ed.

The British National Health Service was set up in 1948 and hasn't collapsed yet.

The French and German systems have been around for the same sort of time an d show no signs of collapse. US patients are more prone to suffer from obes ity, and may put more pressure on the US system, but human beings get sick at a fairly predictable rate - give or take the occasional plague - and hea lth care systems don't tend to collapse, unlike banks and car manufacturers , where the demand is less predictable.

It's always amusing to see Jamie described somebody else's posts as idiotic . If Jamie was slightly less like an idiot himself, he'd probably understand rather more of what gets posted here, and describe rather less of it as idi otic.

Stuff that signifies nothing to him has been known to be more meaningful to readers with better-functioning and better furnished minds.

Bill Sloman, Sydney

No they don't. My dad wasn't sick a day up until the day he died.

Besides, it's still not a reason to take someone's plan that was working for them and charge them double for something worse, like for Mike.

If Obamacare were actually cheaper or better, they wouldn't have to force people on it.

That's why Obama had to lie.

Seems pretty factual, actually.

Obamacare doesn't have (or need) checks and balances, it uses force.

What would you call it if you forced black people to work several hours longer in the field each week--and years longer before retirement--and used it to buy things you thought they should have?

Obamacare is such a thing.

Cheers, James Arthur

That's a great idea. It might even work.

They're not going to let you keep it much longer regardless. The Administration is now essentially bribing insurance companies to drop you, and move you onto Obamacare.

Ironically, Obamacare is the largest mass-cancellation in world history.

Cheers, James Arthur

You LIE! No one is forced to use an Obamacare plan. Private insurance is still available.

In your twisted thinking maybe they are facts... You even say it is your opinion...

"The way I look it..."

So you must also be opposed to fluoridation, social security, welfare, the EPA, the Department of Agriculture... etc.

BTW, no one forces you to work at all. From what I see you posting here you don't have time to work.

Rick

If only you understood insurance..... It is not about getting more than you pay in. That is by no means assured. It is about mitigating RISK! The cost of medical care for serious conditions is so high that very few people can afford it. So if you feel you might have a serious illness, you deal with the risk by paying an assured smaller amount.

I will always have insurance because I don't want to lose my life savings if I get a serious illness.

Or maybe I get on with *your* insurer... :)

You also don't understand that Obamacare is not insurance, it is legislation making insurance available to everyone who wants it.

Rick

Really? You can keep your plan, or buy one without maternity coverage (e.g., a non-Obamacare plan)?

You really ought to know what you're talking about before calling someone a liar.

What does "private" mean when you by government-spec'd product from a gov't vendor at a gov't price, and have no other choice?

They're all Obamacare plans now.

Cheers, James Arthur

I encourage you to use the most expensive hospital and surgeon you can possibly find.

If you pay $5k a year for ten years to retirement & Medicare, you'll not pay back your operation, much less the cost of insuring future claims.

Just freeload--it's the Obamacare way. Everyone should. Really.

Maryland's a Medicaid expansion state, so you could temporarily lower your income below a $16k annual rate and immediately get Medicaid--that's free, or close.

Or you could move, get married, fired, divorced, have a kid...

He was sick before the day he died, but he either ignored it, or didn't kno w about it. "Routine checks" do find some diseases before they manifest the mselves by causing the patient to drop down dead, and usually they allow ea rly treatment that makes the "dropping down dead" a whole lot less likely.

My little brother - the doctor - told me, after I'd been diagnosed with a d odgy aortic valve, that I was lucky. "In 30% of heart disease cases, the fi rst symptom is sudden death"

We don't know enough about Mike's policy to know if what he's been offered is actually worse. We know that he thinks that it is, but health insurance is one of those areas where the people selling the goods know a lot more ab out them than the people buying them.

What Obamacare does seem to have done is make it a lot more difficult for h ealth care insurers to sell a policy that they can walk away from when the patient gets sick.

Don't be silly. Lots of people are into instant gratification, and buying i nsurance now doesn't give that gratification.

You and krw tend to see "lies" where others see differences of opinion.

Ask any right-wing nitwit.

Like defence? A judiciary and a polices force? You don't have any problem w ith that kind of activity, as long as the things being bought are things th at *you* think they should have. Democracy is all about buying things that the majority thinks that everybody should have. Social security and univers al health care are popular in democratic societies - the US short-changes i ts less well off inhabitants because it's closer to a plutocracy than than a democracy.

Sure. Ask any right-wing nitwit.

Bill Sloman, Sydney

I'm not sure how to explain this exactly, but it makes me happy that you are so frustrated about all this. Not because it is the way I want it and not the way you want it... because, believe me, this is not the way I want it really. But when I find someone who thinks in such twisted ways, ways that are mean and malevolent, I guess I just feel it is a bit of poetic justice. Maybe this is what your own personal hell would be like...
