They won't sell you insurance for something that has already happened. You can only be covered for medical expenses during the covered period.
No, not actually. No one will cover a dead person. Not even Obamacare...

It's not "time for [you] to collect on the insurance." You've already have collected. You're paid in full. You had the benefit of insurance for decades, exactly what you contracted for.
That does not give you any right to future benefits. That's the deal you signed up for--your car isn't insured once your policy ends, and they don't owe you a thing.
On the contrary. The hip problem already happened. Same as buying insurance on a wrecked car, then demanding the insurance pay for a new car.
You are a single-mindedly literal person. The example was of applying for insurance to pay out on a risk event--Lincoln's death--that already happened. Same as "insuring" a body part against damage, after it's already damaged.
Once upon a time that was considered fraud. Under Obamacare it's encouraged.
Cheers, James Arthur
If I pay new premiums it will be time for me to collect.
The hip has happened just as it "had happened" any time over the last 30 years. Had I decided to have the surgery while covered then it would be at least partially covered. I will likely have the procedure when I am covered again. But the hip has happened for a long, long time just as heart attacks don't just "happen" overnight. They are many, many years in the making.
You completely fail to understand how insurance works. They aren't insuring body parts. If they were, I could have collected on my hip some years ago. They insure the cost of medical care which I have yet to receive.
This proves you don't understand medical insurance. So your opinion of Obamacare is severely twisted.
Insurance is about pooling *like* risks. It's not about income redistribution, except in lefty land.
The above is simply blather.
I can't remember all I said in this thread, but when I ask the rep how does my $6,048 additional premium for Obamacare help any poor person, after much thinking, he came back with the following. If someone knows the need an expensive surgery, they can sign up and pay one months premium, say $450, and get a $300,000 operation paid for by Obamacare. That's how my $6,048 helps.
Not necessarily, preexisting conditions were excluded and there were physicals required to get insurance. Mikek
Obamacare covers preexisting conditions.
He should, they voted for him.
I think that's premium, as in one.
Yup, but the expense has not yet occurred. Unlike property insurance there is no determination of loss, only expense. I can see why you are having such a hard time with this. You don't understand even the basics of how insurance works.
No, as usual, you're demonstrating *your* cluelessness.
Ok, so I want premium car insurance, and while you're at it, I want
200% replacement insurance on my home...Oh, btw, did I forget? I don't want to pay for this, I want you to pay for my insurance. I just don't feel like working at that point, because for proper health, I'll also need food, heat and entertainment. After all, it is unhealthy to go with out!
That isn't asking for too much, is it?
Moron.. share in the cost, my ass.
Jamie
It's really pretty simple.
You plan on paying a small number of dollars in premiums, and getting a guaranteed large number of dollars in benefits.
Cheers, James Arthur
Obamacare's not insurance, it's a welfare program.
They should send you a note for each premium you send in,
"Your premium helped buy 1,204 meals for the highly-privileged...,"
along with pictures of the pajamaboys and Julias you sponsored.
Cheers, James Arthur
So you can't be insured if you are different from the norm? Yes, that is ultra-conservative land.
Translation... you don't understand. :)
Yep, we're stupid.
So, Rick's Insurance Parlor says if your house burns down you can still buy fire insurance on it, as long as you haven't incurred the expense of replacing it, *yet*.
RIP will gladly sell it to you because it makes you part of a "pool," and pools are good.
Okay, that makes Obamacare sense.
Grins, James Arthur
Unless you were in a group. I'm in a group, the group of people who aren't in other groups.
The "group" rules changed because now insurance is mandatory. That's what you guys don't get. Once everyone is covered there are no more groups. EVERYONE who pays is covered.
Even with preexisting conditions coverage would kick in within a year or was it 6 months. I'm happy waiting that long.
Years ago a coworker had taken a new job and his wife who needed a lot of expensive care was not covered for a year. After that she was covered and got the benefit of insurance. Would you guys exclude her too? Krw said, "Insurance is about pooling *like* risks." Obviously her "risk" was pretty damn high. Should she have simply never been covered?
Again I state that you guys don't understand insurance. You think you do, but you interpret everything in ways that make you feel good rather than how they are and have always been.
Lol. You really don't see anything except what you want to see.
I will be paying for insurance for the next 20 odd years until I die...
*JUST LIKE YOU*. I will be having surgeries and prescriptions and all sorts of treatment when I need it... *JUST LIKE YOU*. The only difference is that I need one NOW. But in the end I will be paying for it *JUST LIKE YOU*...
There is your fallacy. You seem to think that because I will have a surgery within the first year I won't be paying for insurance after that. I will be paying for insurance for the rest of my life... now that I can get it. :)
You don't even know how to read. See above.... "unlike property insurance"...
Even if you put the preexisting condition clause back into the insurance I would get insurance and then get the surgery when it is covered.

Not exactly. The insurance company can't reject you because you have a pre- existing condition, but it will only pay out for expenses incurred after yo u have signed up.
Only from James Arthur's somewhat unusual point of view.
whereas if there were Republican politicians involved in the scheme it woul d be business as usual?
James Arthur is very sensitive to any hint of pork-barreling when there are Democratic politicians involved, and totally insensitive to Republican mal feasance. It's a bit strange - pork-barreling started with the founding tax evaders, who can do no wrong in James Arthur's eyes, but when modern US po liticians from the wrong side of the ideological divide do anything he does n't like - like making it easier for the poor to get housing or health care - he sees them as busy feathering their own nests. Presumably he resents t his as depriving the politicians who do share his demented ideas of their o pportunities to extract a bit more electoral funding.
