It can be used to weigh both electronic things and non-electronic things. While your implementation may differ, the same principle will be used in your machine. If you can build it.

Google for load cell. And load cell amplifier or wheatstone bridge.

Frank, you're showing your age. Who needs all that when you can use loadcell + ADC + CPU.

They make all to easy these days. I bet 90% of uni graduates would not even know what a wheatstone bridge is this days

It's right over there in the polished wooden box with the galvo?

Front end + ADC? Why not just buy a nice micro with all that analog crud 'on the side'?

Well, he mentioned 'project' and I wasn't thinking more practical approaches. I seem to remember an ad for a 24bit adc or something, showing a huge bag of pennies on a scale, with one penny next to it... perhaps it was about the same AD7730 ;)

Thanks, Frank. (remove 'q' and '.invalid' when replying by email)
