up/down counter

Hi, Can anyone design a up/down counter with jkff that can load and hold with these:

11=load,10:down count,01:up count,00:hold

Take a look at the 191 and 269 up/down counters, not to mention the ECL

They spread these controls over three inputs, which probably works better at a system level for most application. You could obviously decode your two inputs to generate the fours sets pf three outputs levels which will set up the functions you require, but you may find yourself in trouble synchronising the state of the counter with the activity on the input you are monitoring for up and down counts.

Yes, I can and I've done it before but it's no use to do so as these type of counters are readily available and cheap. That's why I guess this task was meant to learn *you* something.
