The sad thing is that the Greedifornia paradigm gets taken up by idiots in other states. Anywhere near DC and the prices are similar to the greediest cities out there.

The only good place to eat out there that is left are the buffets at the casinos.

If you really want it, you can get a prix-fixe dinner here for $350, or $500 with wine parings. Or you can get Thai twice-cooked duck over spinach, or flat noodles with chicken and broccoli, for $7. Or, according to experts, the best burrito in the USA for under $10. The burrito will feed me twice, at least.

The superb little French restaurant down the hill has a neighborhood special on week nights, $25 including appetizer, entree, and dessert. Their pain perdu ("lost bread", French Toast) dessert is astounding.

Food in SF is better than anything I've had in LA, and roughly half the price. I bet DC has some pricey restaurants, what with all the lobbyists and hungry politicians.

The more appealing a place is, and the more jobs are available, the more people want to live there, so all the prices go up. Move to some small town in Mississippi if you want cheap.

The Brat goes up to the Cal-Neva (where Frank Sinatra and his pals used to party) to bet on sports. She almost always wins. I hate casinos and gambling.

Well, the green gunk is finally off the sidewalk. It took maybe 3 hours total. I got the most powerful power washer that runs on 120 volts, but it's a toy by power washer standards.

Mo wants to go down to Pacifica for lunch, British beer and fried-oysters-and-chips. I might do that.

There are lots of really good restaurants around DC. Prices often are not related to quality. My favorite places are all in the $20-$30 range.

Both wrong. Restaurant prices vary. Restaurant quality varies. There is only a loose correlation between the two.

Next time use household bleach - 1qt in a 2 gallon sprayer. You can add a cup of washing soda if there's asphalt involved - that'll strip oxidized crap off the top and improve the color. The Bleach would eat at the rubber seals and impeller. I had looked at them and decided I'm not going to use it that often. It'll turn into a gadget I'd have to fix to use it.

it might eat the seals, not all materials used for seals, o-rings and such are compatible with chlorine

and there are varying opinions on whether pressure washing concrete is a good idea

We're at the highest point on our street. If I use bleach, it will run in little streams onto the neighbors sidewalks on both sides and make uglies. I can clean a nice sharp edge with the power washer.

And what is that "rain" word that I hear people using?

The DC area is predominately populated with CIA and DARPA and NOAA and other technical residents. The downtown Washington area has politicians and lobbyists, but mostly just real workers.

Have a look at USAJobs.com to see what is offered. It pretty much covers the entire spectrum from homeland security hacker thwarting to solar panel optimization efforts to weapon design to comm link design to weather station layout and design. A far bigger pool of folks than the simple politician herd or their lobbyist cronies.

You seem to be pretty much in the dark about what really goes on in the nation despite making some products that some of these very same techno-animals use.
