sony playstation --> playing by paying :-)

One college of mine has asked me if i can setup some basic system where he can charge users for playing PS games. Like in old days, where you have coin sorter, internet enabled computer and party on :-) For one coin you can use the PS for let's say 30 minutes.

Now, there are few problem right on the start.

1.) i dont know how to do it :-) :-)

2.) joystick is wireless so i guess i need to create some wifi transmitter / receiver that should be connected to some joystick button ( for re enabling to continue after you have payed or inserted new coin )

3.) i can shutdown HDMI after 30 minutes but i dont think that this is "normal" solution...

4.) Maybe this should be combination of HW and SW on PS ? ....

Something like:

- 10 seconds till HDMI shutdown counter ( display counter on TV )

- pause button is triggered

- hdmi shutdown

- user makes new payment

- hdmi ON

Then your colleague obviously asked the wrong person! :-/

Why won't a *wired* unit work? Do you expect people to NOT walk away with that wireless controller?

Display counter on a standalone display so you don't have to deal with "mixing" your "counter video" with the PS's video.

Why? Player can "be prepared" with his next coin BEFORE the timer expires. If he *lets* the timer expire, he's "lost" that gameplay.

Deposit coin. Timer resets to MAX_TIME. Power is supplied to PS. Timer begins counting down. Any time a new coin is detected, counter restarts (or, is *increased* by MAX_TIME, depending on how "fair" you want to be). Timer times out, remove power from PS: GAME OVER.

KISS.
