Re: OT: Is this question too challenging for a BSEE graduate?

Add 208 three phase input to that 5 KW 5V power supply and the slightest slip can be fatal. The Vital Industries SqueezeZoom had a

1000 A 5 V linear power supply.

It's CO-O-O-OL now... 88°F... which is actually a bit chilly at 12% humidity.

I planted tomatoes today ;-)

Mud puddle.

So is Ann Arbor, MI and Burlington, VT. I'm not impressed by those rankings.

One of the test systems I worked on had a 4.25V 1000A HP linear supply. The first cuts at the PPC-970MP alone was over 100A (at 1.25V).

This was used at a TV station in the video editing room and the video equipment needed a 15 ton A/C system to cool a 4' * 10' room. There were over a dozen large fans to remove the heat from the SqueezeZoom rack.

The biggest I built from scratch was a linear regulated 5 to 16 volt

I thought "FFT(a, b, c, ...)" was a VHDL language element by now.

Some of the older 5VDC required a significant load (~15 A) to regulate well. I needed a 5V supply for a short bench test one day, and there was one of the monsters sitting right there, so I hooked up some power transistors as a "load" in parallel with my work. When I was done, I cleaned everything up and picked up the transistors to put them away on the parts shelf - big mistake! I had bandages on my fingers for a few days.

There was a cooling fan subrack assembly that blew fresh air to all the power supplies and exhausted the hot air out the top. When we hired our first mechanical engineer, his first task was to reduce the noise all those fans made.

Or if you're a student, UW Madison is typically unlisted on the big lists of party schools, with a special note indicating "UWM is really the best, those on this list can't even pretend to be as cool". ;-)

How about MS-DOS (and successors) using "software interrupts" that have return values. They were even part of the defined application interface.
