By extremists hoping for the Multidecadal Oscillation to outweigh the global warming trend. Unlike the cooling 1940-1950 stretch after the roughly-1940 peak of the "multidecadal oscillation", this time around 5-year-smoothed global surface temperature has already set new highs more than 5 years after the

1998 peak.

Your citations of cooling nowadays have depended heavily on citation of time periods beginning with the 1998 spike and end ending with the early-2008 20-year-extreme downward spike, and secondarily going back longer but ending with the depth of the 20-year-extreme-La-Nina gownward-spike of January 2008.
