Ping John Larkin

Just recently received this at my rabbitsfriendsandrelations account. Is the email addy valid ? I've seen my 'proper' one used in spam recently.

'Someone' has to put a stop to this nuisance.

Are you seriously asking if the UK National Lottery would use a Yahoo address?

As we are constantly looking to improve our communication with our players, we have now changed all our email addresses to the following:

  • snipped-for-privacy@national-lottery.co.uk * snipped-for-privacy@national-lottery.co.uk * snipped-for-privacy@national-lottery.co.uk * snipped-for-privacy@national-lottery.co.uk * snipped-for-privacy@play.national-lottery.co.uk * snipped-for-privacy@national-lottery.co.uk

We will now use only these addresses to send you all important communication such as purchase confirmations and rollover alerts.

Not at all. More curious how they got an email for John Larkin although I checked and it doesn't work.

It is more likely the academic John M. Larkin presently at LSU. Note the .edu domain.

Faculty webservers have a bad habit of leaving their academics email addresses in the clear which makes them trivial to harvest.

At this time of year I particularly object to halfwits sending out Xmas letters CC'd to everyone they know (like a few hundred) with my email address in the clear. It only takes a few even dimmer halfwits to click reply-to-all and you have a real mess! Any virus worth its salt will use that header to send us all hostile binaries. Probably sooner rather than later - hostile botnet Trojan style Xmas greetings are all the rage.

If you must send out an Xmas circular round robin note by email use BCC!
