I just received some Fairchild PZT2907A's from Mouser. It's a 2N2907 in a SOT-223 can. Decent power/Co ratio, for a PNP.
The CoO is shown as "Philippines or other foreign origin" and the RoHS: is "Compliant through Exemption."

"Compliant through Exemption"? Does that mean that it *may* contain lead?

The way I get it it does not mean it *may* contain lead, it means it
*does* contain.... I would be curious to know the answer - John, perhaps you'll carry a few in your pocket for a while until you stumble into some XRF thing to test them? The 2907 is a good old friend, of course - takes up many of the pnp jobs on my designs, too. Probably on most peoples, actually :-).Dimiter

Seems there is no alternative but to use lead for this specific application, thus it is exempt from meeting the ROHS spec. Probably a Mil spec'd part.

Seems dodgy to me... Sounds like it could be manufactured almost anywhere. And because they don't know where, they also don't know the manufacturing process. Hence the exemption from RoHS compliance, or rather, it is deemed to be compliant - probably because they can't specify the actual CoO. A great let-off method....
Well, it's more recent than the 2N404! ;-)
