Their successes in that area don't get written up in the news reports you chose to read. Those organisations know what appeals to their readers, and don't let mere facts get in the way of giving you the fictions you want.
There's never a violent and destructive idiot around when you really need them.
Or think you do, and end up shooting friends or family by mistake - or some trusting tourist who doesn't realise that knocking on a stranger's front door constitutes home invasion.
