Thanks. I thought one needed that for Skype.

Well, I installed an older version I got from Jim ... it still no work! Except now the SW blitzes off instantly instead of staying on as long as I don't touch anything in the error message.

Sent an email to Skype support but I guess right now that has them stumped. No answer yet.

You clearly have some conflicts... probably registry and/or DLL related.

I'm still betting it's CRAPTURE >:-} ...Jim Thompson

I guess so. I saw on the web that lots of people have found Skype to cause DEP errors. DEP is part of modern processors (Intel and AMD), so not part of any of my firewall protections.

But the rental license ran out a long time ago, it never starts anymore. I kept it on the PC in case I ever want to use it as a viewer (Cadence said viewer use is ok). Maybe I better nuke it then? Haven't ever needed it as a viewer so far because, not surprisingly, not too many clients use Orcad anymore.

Maybe you need to scrub that PC and re-install everything. You seem to have issues that only a few others report... you're definitely in the minority with a number of issues. ...Jim Thompson

Most definitely not for something like Skype. That would kill a whole day, with the usual license server hiccups and all.

Not according to the Internet. After voting Orcad and Acrobat Reader off the island there is no other software that causes any such problems.

I'll see if I can convince my client to use a web conference service of better quality. If not I'll load the new version again. That one at least won't nuke itself until I click something in the error message box. So the error box will become the "new shut down button".

And you'll continue to plague us with complaints about crashes ;-)

You should be doing a survey amongst all those with the same kind of crashes and find the common culprit.

How about a vote here, of regular Skype users?... I AM a regular user, almost daily... no problems other than occasional crappy sound.

Who has problems, and what is the manifestation?

How many have NO problems? ...Jim Thompson

different

Not sure what is going on with your install attempts, but for both XP and

7 it just installed and worked for ordinary users for me.

Not dotnet. It can get screwed up in ways that require a difficult complete removal and reinstallation. I have had this happen on two machines and the help for this is mostly pitifully poor. Try MVP.org for instructions oh how to do this; warning this must be done in a single sit down session, be fully prepared.

Michael is right, you have a corrupted dotnet environment. It is a bad case of rip it out by the roots and reinstall. It will fight you every step of the way.

I used Revo Uninstaller to clean up a couple computers with .net problems. It cleaned all traces of .net out of the registry. Start with the newest version & work your way back till it's all gone. Some other programs may require repair or reinstallation, because they were linked to corrupt packages.

I used the freeware version, since they were not business computers.

I checked and it seems legit. Doesn't seem to be the same site i used to use for older software. I am not seeing complaints about it. The site i remember as being valid, clean and safe is:

formatting link

Both seem highly regarded. I feel quite safe using oldversion. You could download from each and compare the files before doing anything else.

YMMV

And I bet after that a lot of other stuff quits working. .NET is one of the most screwed up pieces of the software world has ever seen.

Yep. About one step below par for the company that created Vista. The vulnerability patch rates on it is fearsome.
