You haven't had enough shopping centres blown to pieces by terrorists yet to appreciate that security cameras can be useful in fighting crime.

The time to crack 256bit AES at present with state of the art algorithms and a dedicated supercomputer is ~ 3 x 10^56 years.

The present age of the universe is only 14 x 10^9 years

To put it into perspective all nucleons are expected to decay by the time the universe reaches about 10^40 years leaving only black holes.

Moore's Law and a recent x8 speedup trick may have improved things slightly since the EETimes article but not by enough to matter.

If a quantum computer with a decent number of coherent qubits can be built then all bets are off. Failing that it requires a major breakthrough in pure mathematics to render long key AES insecure.

You really are thick as two short planks.

Learn to f**king read the facts. Read the court filing.

The court filing is quite precise. Apple _will_ comply or someone is going to jail... OR... Obama will subvert the law yet another time and quash the filing.

BTW: Can anyone point me to _any_ mention of the word "privacy" in the Constitution? ...Jim Thompson

Well! The FBI thinks differently. In spite of all the twists and turns of construing that the FBI wants it decrypted, all their court order asks is that the auto-erase feature be disabled...

wording regarding illegal search and seizure. Pretty simple shit.

The data is property.

Essentially, since the bastard is dead and there is no one to search or seize illegally from, Apple had better comply or someone's ass is grass. No matter how sensational a news piece it becomes.

That was home-grown by a terrorist who spent a month in Indonesia, but since our president went to primary school there it might not be considered suspicious.

Leftists generally have their head so far up their ass they can't see to read the facts.

Read the brief...

It asks only for Apple to disable the auto-erase "feature", FBI will do the cracking.

It looks like sound legal argument to me. thus it's only a matter of appeals, which should be accelerated, given the circumstances... then someone at Apple is going to jail.

Maybe they can adjust the charge to aiding and abetting a terrorist act ?>:-} ...Jim Thompson

warrant :A written order issued by a judicial officer or other authorized p erson commanding a law enforcement officer to perform some act incident to the administration of justice.

writ:An order issued by a court requiring that something be done or giving authority to do a specified act.

The court issued a writ, obviously did not issue a warrant to Apple. And th e writ has response period during which Apple can prepare their opposition. The government generally cannot order people around to perform overly burd ensome or costly tasks. If Apple stands to lose billions in sales as a resu lt of loss of marketplace confidence in the security of their product, the government loses. Apple will appeal it all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. It's more likely the 2nd amendment will get repealed first.

And the owners of that information are dead, and murderers, and they still have rights? Imagine if we said that a murderer should STILL have the right to own a gun.

You never know what wacko "right" liberals (*) / leftists will come up with.

(*) "Liberals": A hijacked word. Today's liberals aren't liberal. I'm a liberal... live and let live... I could care less what you do as long as you don't try to make me conform to your ways.

FBI wants it decrypted, everyone knows is that is impossible unless you can get the phone to do it

They want Apple to create a tool that will give them unlimited guesses of the 4/6 digit PIN instead

in this specific case no, but I can see why Apple doesn't want to make the tool because next time, and there will be a next time, they will have no option but to hand it over

there is a difference between being forced to make something, and being forced to hand over something you have. Apple already gave FBI everything stored on their servers related to that phone
