Philosophizer: How can you declare, out of hand, that there is no such thing as a level of reality that you have not yet detected with instruments? It sounds suspiciously like "faith" to me. Scientist: Well, it's never been proved that it exists. Philosophizer: How would you like to be the one that proves that it does? ;-)

Actually, I think very few scientists would say this. String theory suggests a "level of reality" but no measurement that I know of verifies it yet.
The interaction between philosophizer and scientist is more likely to be:
Philosophiser: Do you want fries with that Scientist: No thanks.
