On this date in 1953 a tornado hit Worcester, Massachusetts, killing

94 people.

Was that caused by global warming or cooling, or by ignorant Democrats ?:-)

None of the above. It may have been caused by Jim Thompson having one too many early Saturday morning Bloody Marys before sitting down at the keyboard.

Caused by the sun. It's an unstable nuclear reaction. It should be replaced by a regulated light and heat source. :P D from BC

I think it was a really clever prank by MIT students, in one of the few times that MIT people took notice of WPI. Or it was WPI students going after MIT, but they missed.

Actually I've always thought highly of WPI... one of those nice little schools teaching strong fundamentals of engineering.

Likewise Harvey Mudd (The Claremont Colleges), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Indiana) and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Then there's Tufts... my wife worked at EG&G and Honeywell while I attended MIT. She considered Tufts graduates to be the dumbest engineers on the face of the earth ;-)

Tim, Google's error has been fixed (as noted on the linked page). I also notice that the sig in *all* your posts don't include this line.

I never see that word without remembering the story of the fellow that had been raised on the east coast and loved nothing more for dinner than scrod. It was his favorite and he had it a couple of times a week.

His company transferred him to the Left Coast and we just don't call it that out here, nor do we have anything that is identical.

He gets called back for a conference to the head office after a year without his favorite dish, and all he can think about is a scrod dinner. He gets to JFK, hops in a taxi and asks the cabbie if he knows where he can get scrod.

The cabbie looks back and says, "Buddy, I've hoid t'at question ten t'ousand times, but that's the foist time I've ever hoid it in the plupoifect subjunctive."

Do you know a stable one?

Even if it was, the earths temperature would not be well regulated. You need a feedback system.

If some California politicians have it their way it may soon be replaced with CFL bulbs.

If we all pool our knowledge and wisdom we could devise a proper PID regulator.

I suggest that particular attention be paid to eliminating or minimizing overshoot on startup.

Ha. Good. I've taken the link out.

I have three different machines that I post from, depending on where I happen to be (two are Linux machines, and there's this one). So I have three slightly different sig lines.
