Yesterday was a bright, sunny morning with frost in all of the shady spots. It sure is nice to live in the hills with real weather & not just the 'retiree-friendly' stuff.

Australia has all those benefits and it is an island albeit an 'island continent'.

Yeah, but what I heard from engineers there the authorities are behaving rather destructive to small business. Exorbitant import tariffs and so on. A socialistic trend ain't my cuppa tea. Small business is the foundation of innovation and a region's well-being and I expect politicians to understand that ;-)

So I should add to the list: Good biz climate, conservative gvt.

I sure hope they don't engage in protectionism. That never really works. We electronics guys are blessed with lots of domestic manufacturers but during a recent laser project I came to realize how much specialty stuff we have to buy overseas. Not for cost reasons, we really didn't have much of a choice.

It gets really old when, like it seems at times in AUS, there are high tariffs but there is no industry left to be "protected" anymore.

I've always wanted one that says, "Caution! I brake for tailgaters!"

Followed by a trillion dollars of losses and a spike of unemployment as the bubble burst, beginning late '99. The only thing that remains from the .com bubble and corporate scandals is the ratcheted up government spending, which never ratchets down.

The $$$ were often illusory, but you have to pay income taxes even on illusory $$$.
