All the microwaves I've ever repaired only had interlocks on the door - none to disable the supply to the transformer when the casing is removed.

The SRT series were great cameras as were some of the lenses but Minolta sadly, is no longer in the camera business. They sold out to Sony - story being that they couldn't crack the noise problem for the higher resolution sensors. Sad loss, but there will be quite a few other casualties in the move from film to digital. As for my favourite film, there's only one lab worldwide that processes Kodachrome now, and it's not even Kodak owned!. The Lausanne lab closed earlier this year.

Wasn't the srt100 current around the late 60's ?. Around the same time as the Nikkormat FTn and Spotmatic F. Get confused over the Minolta model numbers because the very early models weren't in seqential order...

Well, there's no answer to some things :-).

Better way would be to have a reversable screw or plug in moulded diode assy as part of the probe. Sort of like the interseries coax adapter kits...

I bought the SRT in the 70's. The X300 is much younger, 90's. Minolta shut down right before I discovered the bad cap in the X300 but I was able to find a SMT electrolytic at Mouser that fit in there. So it's back in business :-)

From sad experience I can tell you that using a 40kV probe on microwave ovens cooks fluke meters. The probes generally deal badly with any high voltage with a high frequency component.

On the matter of fuses in microwave ovens: they will blow if the (confusingly self healing) capacitor breaks down.

The trash I play with (read collect) is attrition from SMD and thru hole runs. In other words, brand new components. I can build and fix a pretty vast array of "Bing's things". (a hard joke to get).

More probably, it is a polarity thing. The magnetrons in ovens have the anode at ground potential, and the cathode thousands of volts below ground.

The probes where I have seen that warning have meters built in, and don't have a polarity switch.

HV probes are "designed" for probing high voltage sources. Period. Sheesh, what a dumb remark.

There were probes with built in meters made for measuring the HV on a CRT. You rarely ever saw one outside a TV shop.

Yes, and as opposed to being called HV probes, they were specifically titled as TV Anode Supply probes in every instance where I saw them.

All I want is a microwave that if you put in the cup with the ear to the right, when it stops (rotating) the ear is in the same position again.

Most have a 10 or a 20 second cycle time. Use multiples of that.

Timing. Watch through the door grid, for say, 10 revolutions, and see how many seconds that is. Then, just cook your item for an integer multiple of the period of one revolution. :-)

If the problem with non-turntable microwaves is that the beam is more prominent in some parts of the oven cavity than others, wouldn't the best microwave oven be one that moves the beam around more efficiently, and doesn't waste the power to turn a turntable?

Wouldn't the best MW oven be one that has perfected placing the food inside, and NOT having it move, yet cook very thoroughly and evenly?

The design challenge for today is "Beam manipulation", specifically the low loss variety.

The term for today is "Nucleation Point".

Drop a couple Mentos in a hot, freshly opened two liter of Dr. Pepper, and SEE what many nucleation points can do!

That's almost as bad as the guy that said that there were models that would not work if the interior illumination lamp was blown.

I have yet two see any two models that have the same rotational period.
