That is a double whammy being Radio Shack NTE. Even Mouser, which is ordinarily bargain basement low priced, has to sell NTE high.

Plus shipping & sales tax.

Individually packaged, with some basic information in or on the package adds to the costs. The ECG/NTE 125 (1A 1000PIV) used to sell for 79 cents, with a retail of $1.25. A box of 100 was $7.70, yet some shops would buy dozens that were in individual boxes just so they could include it with the defective parts. Some 'customers' would argue that it wasn't a new part if it didn't come in a marked box or bag.
They probably make most of their money from phones now. Phone stores often have the same 3 clerks and no customers.

My carbon footprint is easily half what yours is. Probably a quarter.
Maybe so, however, you seem to be expending valuable energy just to make sure I am aware that you noticed.
Energy is expensive these days and you don't have much as it is.
Ration what you have, it taint much but at least it's keeping you ticking, barely.

You should be familiar with that.

Sometimes people need a replacement hard drive on a Sunday. RS sold mass-produced PC's before even Apple, but their management hasn't got enough sense to carry computer parts. In the 90's they didn't start selling modems until a year before DSL took off, but they still had 10 different CB radios. There are always techs working in any business area with an immediate need for a 66 block or something but RS has zip.

Office Depot.
But not likely bare hard drives. Back then it was good to know a VAR. Or an IT guy at a big company that keeps on the edge, so even their old gear is fast and new to you.
They never did any analysis back in the early '90s and to me that makes them look even dumber than they are. Very poor management of that end, IMO.
40 channel was big for all the truckers and CB dopes. You should see the Cobra 40 channel FM versions (illegal in US)that were coming over from Puerto Rico.Plenty of computer stores now, but they definitely missed that queue, that's for sure. They would be the "Fry's" or even contend with Amazon. They would have had stores AND online presence. But it never happened that way. Hell, even Costco whoops dey ass.
You still have
This is closer to how you need to run a parts business. It is a huge waste of floor space to put components in blisterpack on pegs, ala Fry's. The majority of what you get at Anchor is from the back room.
HSC still exists, though it is probably on life support. When you don't manufacture locally, you don't get a lot of excess inventory.
Also Excess Solutions in Mipitas is still alive and kicking.
(...)
Indeed. Thanks!
