I wasted 30 minutes on wednesday trying to install the PL2303 drivers on win7 perhaps the problem was that it had previously worked on that machine?

PL2303s are more common than 16550s, why can't they just ship a working driver with windows.

The last one restores a XP like network tray icon.

There are a few other tweaks to help mitigate the changes in Win 7, I can tell you about later.

Add ShellFolderFix to the list.

If you have Desktop folders where you keep related apps, you may have noticed (and cursed) that Win7 only "remembers" the size and position of the last one closed. ShellFolderFix restores (mostly) the XP-style behavior where each Explorer window kept its own characteristics.
