There you go again. Thinking you don't have to pay for what you get and not seeing that as the real theivery in the question here. You get the advantages so you have to pay.

Show me where this has been "proven wrong". First, show me ONE example of a "situation with no government". Then, analyze its failure mode.

We've been infected with the disease of government for so long that some people can't even grasp the concept of Individual Liberty any more.

I intended it exactly as a statement of fact. Of every hour you work, the government takes roughly half. If you work harder, the government will take disproportionately more. That's just the way it is. If you don't agree, they'll take it by force.

Taxes are compulsory. In law, a contract requires the assent of both parties as to price, services to be rendered, and delivery. Agreement may not be coerced. Absent these, there can be no contract.

"Social Contract" is a euphemism, not an actual contract. There is no guarantee of price, delivery, or service.

Roads help us all, but account for just $76 billion out of $2,800 billion.

Most of your money is used to support other people. You are serving them. If that's something you think the government does well, then I can see that you'd be satisfied.

I'm proud and pleased to pay taxes for the common good. But at the same time, personally, I fear that the government's most expensive, well-intentioned programs instead create much suffering, rob people of their dignity, and trap them in poverty and misery.

Your error is in the numbers.

Take a look at any failed state and you will see a brief example of no government. It doesn't last long. Large sections of Iraq and Afghanistan have been in the no government situation at various times. In each case some band of armed thugs rose up and took control.

That's not "no government" - that's "government by armed thugs", which, when you get right down to it, all of them are anyway.

There is a small difference guvmint thugs and regular thugs. Guvmint thugs force you to suffer the added ignominy of filling out paper work. Regular thugs wouldn't dream of that.

So there's the difference: with guvmint we spend more time on paperwork.

Now it is. The US government removed the existing government of Iraq and did not provide a replacement. After, lets say, 3.2 seconds the thugs noticed and took over, producing the situation we have now but for the glorious 3.2 seconds there was no government. The failure happened exactly as it always has and always will when the thugs took over.

Silly, once the government (thugs) have establishsed themselves the paperpushers move in. Since they *need* paper to push, you get forms.
