Sorry I reposted your post above without adding what I wanted to write below. The point I wanted to make was the error seems to affect your whole expression for power, doesn't it?

Yes, electronics engineers are well aware that -always- Power=Vrms*Irms since that is what rms is specifically about. However if you do not understand the derivation of the relationship between voltage and current then you will be relagated to your silly high-school math and drawing rediculous conclusions based upon your ignorance.
Connected to my sinewave generator I have an ammeter in series with an inductor and a voltmeter across the inductor. Both meters are set to read rms values. At the appropriate frequency the ammeter reads 1 amp and the voltmeter reads 10 volts. I know that Power = Irms*Vrms.
Using this information I thus calculate that the power developed in the inductor is zero.
Oops I forgot to mention that to calculate the power I need the rms current of the inductor, not the sinewave generator, which means that I needed to measure ..........
But I am sure you know better.
If you can prove that I will be happy to correct your attempts.
Go tell your boss that the power is 10W. Assuming he is minimally competent I'm sure you'll be looking for a new job.

Oh dear Charles. Methinks such a subject is a bit beyond you at this time.
Just ask anybody who knows anything about electronics about the power developed in reactive components (inductors and capacitors to yourself). Better still look in an electronics for beginners book and try to understand what is meant by Phase Angle and Power Factor.

There are those that know what the construct of Irms is and those that don't. Many use the 'shorthand' Irms that is the root of the sum of the squares approach as being what 'current' is without a full understanding of the concept of voltage and current.
Some that do understand tend to be floppy about the use of volts and current -making the assumption that the meaning in that instance is obvious as to how it is being used.
