That story made headline news in the yellow papers here a week ago. The journalists of the investigative TV show 'Pressiklubi' then tried to track down origins of the scoop. According to them, the root appears to be the speculation by the italian physicist Gianluigi Zangari that the BP spill might affect the Golf stream. This was referred to in the polish Global Awareness web page, which is keen on reporting UFO sightings also (was claimed in the TV show). Then a polish radio station picked this from the web page and made a story, and they also called to a polish meteorologist asking for an opinion. The meterologist said he didn't think BP spill is likely to affect the Golf stream, but if the current indeed did stop that would have severe consequences in Europe - a fact that anybody who went to high school and stayed awake there knows.
Then the major polish newspaper Gazeta quoted the radio broadcast. Looks like they have downplayed the speculative nature of the story, and maybe exaggregated the seriousness of the case. Since then other media seems to have been propagating the stuff, including the finnish evening papers.

The many critters that infest the Gulf of Mexico gobbled up that little puddle of oil, and want more.

of course golf ball sized hail would occur due to the -GOLF- stream.B-) I'm surprised it's not raining golfballs.
Last week, in So. Cal, the temps were in the 90s and 100s. Yesterday, the bottom fell out of the thermometer; it's currently cloudy and 61F.
Where's the warming when you need it? ;-)
Thanks, Rich
Fore! :-)
There's a little pitch-n-putt course on Miller Road between McDowell and Thomas... rains golf balls in the street all the time :-) ...Jim Thompson

It fell from 100 to the low 70s in days, here. It's been in the low 40s at night (45F when I went to work this morning). Dew is the closest thing we've had to rain in a while, though. My water bill was $150 for the month (and I only irrigate ~30min/week). :-(

It was a new record 113 in LA a week ago Monday, and now it's raining. For a couple days it was both hot and raining on and off. Found out the roof leak I fixed still leaks.

Only very small bits of it. The name was chosen by a Viking estate agent, and his customers were dissappointed (and their descendants eventually died out, a few hundred years later).

Several hundred square miles IS "only very small bits of it, when one considers that Greenland is 836,000 square miles in size.
