You can get tape-mounted SOT-23 transistors.

With a pick-and-place robot, an automated desoldering machine and an automated soldering station, you might be able to get a 28kW pulse every few seconds out of a tape-fed pulser.

The transistors would have to disintegrate cleanly to let it work, and the area around the device would eventually crud up enough to need occasional manual cleaning.

If the firing rate is high enough, the pads may remain molten; the bodies may even be self-clearing, but probably not the leads. So you'd still need a brush, flux and a dab of fresh paste.

With a suffiently high rep rate, you might even have enough Si flow to have Maxim interested and dedicate you a fab line full time. Wonderful: no more unobtainium part problem...

An FMMT417 will make a 100 amp, 10 ns pulse at 300 volts, with a lifetime over

4e11 pulses. Rep rate must be low, given the power dissipation capability of a SOT23, so it will last a long time.

These parts can be assembled into series-parallel strings to make small, multi-kilovolt, megawatt range pulsers.

Which, for some people, is more interesting than making lame jokes.

Mirror lenses have very poor contrast so I never bought one. I did buy an eBay special, 300mm F4 Cannon FD lens for $70. That lens was $1500, or more, when new. I also picked up a couple of nice zooms for pennies on the dollar. I'd love to have them on my Olympus DSLR but I really don't use it much (again, my phone does almost everything I need).
