Engineers can also be a bit rough on managers. Over the years, I've learned better social and communication skills. Once they get the idea that I'm really on their side, I generally get whatever I need to get the job done - even if what I need is more time.

Now they are at it again, pretty extreme pay raises for police etc. The same rationale they had during the stock market bubble: Oh, can't attract talent, the prop tax revenue supports it, blah, blah. Until that bubble bursts, too...

Kids growing up in CA might want to rethink an engineering career and consider law enforcement, legal professions or medical. All those make a whole lot more money than engineers. EEs might pretty soon not be able to afford a median priced house anymore.
