If you look at my origianl link to ElAl procedures concerning air marshals: "Air Marshals are known to be armed plain-clothes security officers whom are trained in unarmed combat, special tactics and rescue procedures. Detect and extinguish security threats that occur in-flight. El Al has made it a policy for at least one air marshal to be on board all El Al flights."
It's the trained in unarmed combat that's important. They will take any one and any thing down without firearms. Those individuals are really determined and anyone who confronts them loses.

And no, they do not use "regular hollow points" "like many other police agencies". And as for the .357 "google find" you came up with... In fact, I doubt very many cops are carrying wheel guns at all. They are all encouraged to use semi-auto guns with large capacity magazines.
The military designates what they use. It was the Colt M1911 .45, but they have since switched to barretta 9mm.
AFAIK the Air Marshall service does not get tied to one device. They use what they desire to use. And the only thing they get tied to by policy is the bullets.
