Which distribution?

Just getting round to updating the Pi B and Pi 2 with the latest software.

This offers me many choices.

Raspbian/NOOBS

Ubuntu Mate/Ubuntu core

Windows 10 IOT core! (can you drive this from W7/8.1?)

OSMC

OpenELEC

PiNET (skip this one)

RISC OS (intriguing)

******************

NOOBS itself seems to offer:

Raspbian

Pidora

OpeneELEC

OSMC

RISC OS

Arch Linux

However the documentation may well be out of date as the list doesn't match the one above.

So two questions, really.

(1) Which Linux distribution?

(2) Which Media Centre?

I assume that I should target the Pi 2 at the Media Centre because of extra decoding grunt.

TIA

If you don't already have a preference, definitely Raspbian.

I never know which one is more up-to-date or feature-rich. Possibly OpenElec. You can even install Kodi (the underlying software for both) as a package on Raspbian!

personaly i prefer OSMC but that is only because OpenElec will not let you install additional (Non Media Center) packages
