To be clear, I’m not a gamer and don’t want *game* support. I’ve found Linux *driver* support for game controllers to be fantastic, but I’m not finding very many *apps* (desktops, shells, etc.) that see them as a first-class input method. All my searches turn up mainly game-centric distributions like RetroPie (or various media center interfaces), but nothing good when it comes to just using my RPi as a regular computer via the limited inputs of gamepads.
As background, I’ve started experimenting with using `screen` via a “full” analog gamepad with `input-remapper` nicely handling all the keybindings for me. It has worked so well that I’m hoping to find a good way to essentially make it possible to largely operate any RPi I have with just a “classic” D-pad via bluetooth. I looked into the digital signage distributions that are listed in the RPi Imager thinking that’d be the closest fit, but they all seem to revolve around using a smartphone to do things; I want tactile controls, dammit!
Can anybody point me in a better direction than I’ve found? I’m
*really* hoping I don’t have remap every last thing I use, or alternatively write my own shell/window manager/whatever so that they’ll function reasonably well without a full keyboard w/mouse. Thanks.
