Sony f340 8mm camcorder problem

Jun 03, 2007 3 Replies

I have never gotten much use from this Sony f340. So in excellent condition. The fault that has developed, I guess, maybe from not using it enough. Here is a tv screen picture of the fault, (heavy smearing to the right) which also makes the on screen display jump around. Is this likely to be a dried up capacitor, as it seems the picture slightly improves with time? I am used to older tv servicing, so would like to have a bash at this problem before throwing it out. Thanks a bunch.

Sorry to inform you it's probably not worth the effort. There are likely to be dozens of bad surface-mount capacitors. Some may have even leaked corrosive material onto the circuit board, eating the copper traces.

Absolutely on the button. I have seen this before!!!

Thanks guys, it's a shame, should have used it more and got my monies worth out of it. I paid 100 gbp not long before to have another common fault fixed :-(
