SONY - CFD-101 CD Player won´t start anymore

the CD Player of my SONY - CFD-101 won´t start anymore. Keypress - no reaction.



any ideas?

Does it read the TOC when a disc is inserted ? If not, does the display say anything about the status ? Does the loading sequence actually complete (slipping tray belt ) ? Does the laser 'home' when the tray is closed ? Could be lots of things, but look for the obvious mechanical problems first ...

Doesn't the '101 have a slidey - outy tray at the bottom rather than an opening lid in the top ? Maybe not. P'raps I'm thinking of a different model ?

From what few and poor quality images I could find it looks like it has a poppy-uppy thingy on the top.

Yeah, you're probably right. I used to see hundreds of these boom boxes, but people don't seem to have them repaired any more. Most of the Pan ones have a slidey tray, and have popup cassette decks in the top. If the '101 is a poppy up one, then I agree with you, that the interlock switch, which I seem to recall is an integral part of the clickety-click latch on Sony's that have a pop up deck, is a good candidate for being faulty. Used to keep them in stock, now I come to think of it.
