Sony 42xbr900 ~~~PLEASE HELP~~~

So heres the deal, I have called every repair shop and sales stores and i am getting really sick of people shrugging their shoulders and making a comment like "Have you tried turning off and then turning back on your TV?"

The plasma tv is a 42xbr900. That is the unit that is about 4-5 years old and requires a seperate sony media box.

Just off center to the left is a verticle bar about 3 in width. The top half of the bar is white, the bottom half of the bar is black with flashing green pixels. It does not matter which source I am on.

I can email a picture to anyone to see, unless someone knows how to post a photo.

You can email me at curtis snipped-for-privacy@yahoo.com

ANY IDEAS of what could be wrong and approximate cost? I am fairly electronics saavy, let me know if this is something I can fix myself.

Not something that you can fix. The problem is part of the screen itself and isn't servicable.

I'd fix it with a hammer. No joke, thats probably the only soloution. These new technology TVs and monitors don't have much you can fix in them.

Unless you have an osciloscope and a schematic to check to see what is going on internally in the circuits driving thei display, I think an accident is about the best solution to your problem.

The fault is in the main processor drivers, or the crosspoint pixel drivers on the backside of the screen.

These sets are service using board swapping to test. Then the defective boards that are replaced, are set up to properly match each other.

In the service procedure, it would be impossible to go through the TV set without the proper factory test and diagnostics equipment. These TV sets are extremely sophisticated.

More than likely your set will be too costly to service. If it is more than

5 year old, I have my doubts that Sony will even have parts availability.

We had a similar problem with our 43" Sony LCD. We found out that it was a known problem with this model and were referred to a Sony site which I can't find now, Anyhow call Sony at this number:

1-800-222-7669 Sony covered the full cost of the $1100 repair. Our TV was 1 year out of warranty, but since it was a known problem, they covered it.

Hard to believe. Sony has a bad reputation for customer satisfaction (with respect to problem resolution).

You must not have had any dust in it.
