Sharp 13SB50 tv

I agreed to look at this set for a friend and my online search for similar symptoms hasn't turned up anything. I haven't opened it yet - thought I would see if the solution were widely known.

The problem appears that the set will not respond to the remote control. She had two remotes that used to control it, and neither one seems to have any effect. This tv model is only controllable with the remote (totally stupid idea) so I don't know if the set will operate any other way. I can turn it on with the set power button, but can't change the channel or anything with the remote.

I'm not sure how to really check the remote itself as I don't have another identical tv to try it on. Viewing the remote with a video camera shows that the led is putting out, so at least that's a good sign. The main one is a universal and I tried resetting the proper code and also scanning - both to no avail.

Anyone already go through this?

Point the remote control at a video camera. If it's working you will see it glow.

IR is only just off the visual range and most (all?) cameras reach this.

Thanks for the thought - I had pointed out that I did that and there is output, but that's the extent of my ability to test the remote for that particular model. Any thoughts past that?

similar

thought I

control.

could be:

  1. defective infra red sensor
  2. defective or noisy supply to ir sensor
  3. 5v transistor in micro circuitry

there is , i seem to recall, a section in the TV faq

formatting link
about checking the ir sensor. they usually have 3 pins, scoping the output one will give you an idea of whether the pulses are non existent or scrambled

A remote can sometimes put out a signal and still be faulty, by being off frequency. It's rare, though.

Do you mean as in just wipe off the cover? Could it really be that simple?
