power surged lcd monitor turns on and off continuously

i have a 19 inch lcd monitor from viewsonic. was gone over the weekend and when i came back it was broken. it was plugged directly into the wall, not surge protected, and was turned off. but when i turn on now, it flashes on for a very brief time, less than a sec, and i can see a clear image, but then turns off, then turns back on and flashes the image again. this cycle repeats over and over at a cycle of a few seconds w/ the monitor being mostly off. the power light cycles too along w/ the image. any suggestions on fixing it?

Usually, when a LCD monitor turns on briefly then shuts off, it is due to a fault in the inverter board. This is the first one I've seen that keeps retrying automatically, though. First, I would check the fuses and FETs on the inverter itself.

there are two boards: power board and one more that has the dvi and vga ports plugged into it which seems to be more high tech. there is a fuse on the power boards and it's till in tact.. can't tell which one is an FET.. seems to be a shame but looks like i'm gonna have to junk it... thanks for the suggestion.

How did you test it?

3 legged device. Google MOSFET.

Problem could also be one of the tubes. This is most likely a simple repair. Shame to junk it... You could have it repaired for $75 to $100.
