Mitsubishi 42" widescreen will not turn on

Hello, First let me apologize for not searching the issue here before I ask. I can't figure out how to do it. First time here. Sorry. We have a 42" HD 1080 series Mitsubishi widescreen. Bought it Dec 2002. Yesterday afternoon I was watching tv for approx 30 minutes and everything was fine. I turned the tv off and returned several hours later and went to turn it back on. It will not turn on. The tv has sat in the same exact spot since the delivery guys put it down almost 4 years now. The only other issue I can think the tv had was around 4 months ago. There was a period of 2 or 3 days where the picture turned red and the image was bent. It would happen out of nowhere. Seemed like simply turning the tv off and back on again got it back to normal, and after those couple days it never did it again. Not sure if that has anything to do with what's going on now.

It is very possible the power supply has failed, or a component on one of the circuit boards has failed. This is not something that a non specialized or authorized shop will be able to service for you, unless the fault is very simple.

For these types of sets, it is best to call the factory authorised service. They are generaly serviced by module swapping, and then performing the poper calibrations where required.

Once again, Jerry, you are posting bullshit that is less than helpful. Why do you persist in giving generic advice that is often dead wrong when there are people here who have specific experience with the products.

These sets are almost never serviced by board swapping, except for expeditious warranty repairs. He likely has a failed convergence output IC that has the set shutting down because it pulls down one of the supply lines. Lots of independents service these effectively, but they usually bother to get the documentation before they try it.

It would have helped a lot though if the OP had posted the model number of the set. Yeah it could be faulty convergence STK ICs but the OP did not even specify that it was a rear projection set. It could be a DLP or LCD for all we know. At least you replied with something that may be of some use. ;>)

Thanks guys....OP here. Sorry I didn't give the model number. I'm home from work with a screwed up back, the wife moved (hid ;-) the owners manual on me, and I couldn't move the TV table to find the number behind the set...excuses, excuses, excuses. Anyway, she helped me move the table last night. The model number on the set is WT-42311. It is a rear projection set. Leonard, I'm using the link you provided. Thank you.

I don't have experience with TV repair, but since I started repairing my own pinball machines about a year ago, I'm no longer afraid to at least check broken stuff out for myself before I call someone in to fix it. In December I had a problem with a 36" tv. I found a repair forum, took pictures of my problem area, found out it was the flyback, and at least was able to not get killed by a shady repairguy telling me this and this and that was wrong. I was able to tell HIM what was wrong. TV works great, and I wasn't taken advantage of. Thank you very much for being here to help people like me!
