Laptop Compaq RC3240CA - Power failure

Jun 26, 2006 3 Replies

I bought a Compaq laptop. It crashed 2 month after the warranty terminated.

A repairmen said to me than I must replace the motherboard $$$.

I inspected the motherboard and I found a small surface mount piece broken. No inscription on the piece. I found the component name is PL1.

All PLx are place in a large PCB track (alimentation).

The resistive is less than 1 ohm.

It's not seem to be a regular link or jumper because the alimentation track is not seperate by another track.

What's this piece?

Thanks.

I changed the piece by a simple wire and I'm waiting the next crash.

It works great. I don't know what is the function of this piece (current limiter, fuse?)
