JVC VCR- Tape is immediatley ejected. HR-S7600U

Need help.

After watching a movie. Tape got stuck and would not eject. Unit displayed "auto" and would not turn on.

Opened unit, removed tape. Now, (a different) tape goes in, it looks like the unit is starting but then the tape is ejected after a few seconds and the unit disply "Auto". The power switch does not turn unit on. after a few minutes the "auto" also disapears, and only a few dashes show in display.

Any guidance?

If mechanical alignment and gearing/idler/belts all are functioning properly, then I would look at the mode switch. Many can be removed and cleaned and then reinstalled. The mode switch provides electrical feedback to the controller to tell it when the cartridge loading and unloading mechanism is in the desired position. If the mode switch gets dirty and the wipers don't make good electrical contact, then the unit determines something is not working correctly so either automatically ejects the cartridge, or depending on the unit, sometimes just shuts down/off.

The oldies that use an incandesant bulb for a light source instead of IR diode might have a bulb out.

Any machine that would use an incandescant lamp is 20 years older than the OP's machine. The HR-S prefix is a Super VHS model.
