HP PSC 2510 All In One - scanner goes past stop and clicks constantly

I was hoping someone might be able to give me some direction as to how I could try and fix my HP 2510 All-In-One printer scanner.

When I start the unit up as it begins it's post process the screen goes to an hourglass and waits for the scanner to become ready at which point the scanner mechanism tries to get to a ready mode by "seeking it's home" but never finds it the unit continues to try and go past the end stop and creates a clicking sound.

Ultimately I believe the unit will stop doing this after a few minutes but there is definitely something wrong. I found a post by a fellow who had an idea it might need to be cleaned and lubbed but to no avail

so I was hoping someone may have experienced the same issue and has a solution for it.

I'm not sure what tells the scanner mechanism to "STOP" and why it isn't, anyway hopefully someone can give me an up on how to try and get it going.

Thanks,

An answer to my own question for others with similiar isssues that repaired my issue was dirty optics... and dirty glass.

The scanner head uses the back of the glass for reference and if the scanner head can not see its end mark on the back of the glass that's when it tries to go past the end mark.
