hdmi/fiber optic cords

I have my high definition box hookup up to my 42" plasma tv with a hdmi cord. My kenwood reciever only has a slot for a fiber optic cable. I have both of them hooked up at the same time. When I want to listen to the tv over the Kenwood surround sound I just turn the speakers off on the tv, but since the hdmi cord transmits sound and both the hdmi and fiber optic was plugged to the high def. cable box, I was wondering if this might cause a problem or possibly take away sound quality from one or the other?.

I don't think so, it's digital.
